Streets is Talking

(((From MTV News)))

Roc-A-Fella Records or the Dame Dash Music Group? Beanie Sigel found himself caught in the middle when Dash and Jay-Z ended their long partnership a few years back.

"I definitely didn't want to pick between my friends," Sigel said recently in New York, where he was at work on his new LP, The Solution. "Who wants to do that? Where I'm from we don't do that. I don't blow whichever way the wind goes. I couldn't pick between my friends.

"The reason why I didn't make that decision, I didn't know what the situation [with Jay and Dame] was, why [the split] happened. I've asked both sides and didn't get a legitimate answer before I had to go [to prison]. It unfolded while I was locked up. I just wanted my own situation where if I was to make music, it wouldn't be me choosing Dame Dash Music Group or the Roc. Technically I was still a Roc-A-Fella artist during the split."

It took more than a year to make a decision — different scenarios of Sigel going to G-Unit as well as starting his own label were rumored — but ultimately, Beans went with Hov, and will release his next album on Roc-A-Fella this year. The move may seem a bit surprising from the outside looking in, because it seemed like Sigel was in fact closer to Dash and business partner Kareem "Biggs" Burke, who was the third head of the Roc before the split. Dash and Burke were even there to pick Beanie up from jail when he was released on August 9, 2005, after being sentenced to a year in prison on a gun charge in October of 2004.

"A lot of things be smoke and mirrors," the Broad Street Bully reflected. "A lot of people thought I was leaning toward Dame Dash Music Group — they seeing Dame in the videos we shooting and the 'House Arrest' thing they put on BET, and him coming to court and coming to jail to see me. It was like 'OK, Dame is riding with him.' That was never the case with me. A lot of people look at it like Dame did this, that and third, that should have been my obligation. But for what? If you doing that, you doing it from the heart."

Damon Dash
Sigel said when he was released from prison, he started feeling like Dame had ulterior motives for staying close to him. "When you look at Roc-A-Fella as whole — no disrespect to any other artists over there — but if you don't have Jay-Z, who's the next best thing for you to have? I'm no dummy, I'm no fool. I seen through all that. I was letting that weigh out. There's a song by Bill Withers: 'Use Me.' "

Asked if he thought Dame's intentions were pure, Beanie simply answered, "I don't know what his intentions were, but in all honesty: Nah.

"After a while I felt like sh-- for feeling like that," he continued. "You don't want to question your friend, or who you thought was your friend. Their loyalty and sincerity towards you, you don't want to question that. As time went on, I did things to bring stuff out to light, and I was finding out a lot of stuff that wasn't right."

Sigel also hinted that the State Property clothing line that Dash ran and Beans had a stake in may be all but over. "Ain't no status," he said. "Ain't no status." ...

Three 6 Album Pushed Back

In light of the recent success of their MTV reality show, "Adventures In Hollyhood," Three 6 Mafia are now pushing back the release date of their latest album. Meanwhile, former member Crunchy Black prepares for a solo disc of his own.

The group's forthcoming studio album Last 2 Walk was originally slated for an April release before being delayed until May. Now, the duo's latest set is scheduled to hit stores on July 3 in an effort to better work around the group's reality show, which premiered last month on MTV.

Last 2 Walk will be the follow-up disc to 2005's Most Known Unknowns, which featured the hits "Stay Fly" and "Poppin' My Collar." The new record boasts a healthy list of guest appearances including Lyfe Jennings, Paul Wall, 8Ball & MJG, Akon, The Game, Lil' Jon and Lil' Wayne. The disc also features Houston's Chamillionaire, who makes an appearance on the album's lead single "Doe Boy Fresh," which is currently receiving both national radio and video airplay.

In related news, former member Crunchy Black is also set to release a solo album entitled From Me To You on June 12. The album will be released through the Hypnotize Minds/Asylum imprint and will feature new songs as well as "chopped and screwed" cuts from the Memphis rapper.

RIP "CHICO"

LAS VEGAS – Diego Corrales, a former world champion boxer who scored one of the most memorable knockouts in boxing history, died Monday in a three-vehicle accident near his Las Vegas home.

Corrales was driving a 2007 Suzuki 1000 motorcycle, traveling northbound on Fort Apache Road in the southwest part of the city, when it inexplicably struck the back of a 1997 Honda Accord, Las Vegas police spokesman Sgt. Tracy McDonald said.

McDonald said the motorcycle careened into the southbound lane and, at some point, he was tossed off the bike.

A 2004 Mercedes-Benz traveling in the southbound lane was unable to brake in time. McDonald said the driver, who was not identified, "was unable to avoid striking the motorcycle and possibly the operator of the motorcycle also."

"Diego Corrales lived an 'X Games lifestyle,' " his promoter, Gary Shaw said. "He was a true warrior. He did everything hard and fast. He loved anything to the extreme. He was the kind of guy in the ring you never had to worry about quitting. I don't know how many times he would say, 'They'll have to kill me first.' "

Corrales' wife, Michelle, who is seven months pregnant, was on the scene and identified the body shortly after 11 p.m. PT. The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. McDonald said there was no outward evidence of drugs or alcohol involved.

He could not say how fast the motorcycle was traveling.

"There is still a lot of evidence to go through," McDonald said.

Corrales, who was 40-5 and held world championships in both the junior lightweight and lightweight divisions, was the victor in one of the most storied bouts in the sport's history.

On May 7, 2005, he and Jose Luis Castillo engaged in a toe-to-toe slugfest for nine rounds at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Twice Castillo knocked down Corrales in the 10th round and appeared on the verge of knocking him out.

But Corrales arose after the second knockout and fought back with a fury, and he wound up stopping Castillo in what would become the 2005 Fight of the Year. It also would be his last victory.

"No one who ever saw that fight will ever forget it," Shaw said. "There weren't that many people in the arena that night, but I know there are hundreds of thousands of people who now say they were there because that was one of those nights. He belongs in the Hall of Fame based on that fight alone."

In a June 2, 2006, story in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Corrales spoke of his love of extreme sports. He told a story of jumping from a plane at 14,000 feet, snowboarding on rocky terrain and scuba diving with a school of sharks.

He said he liked the rush he got from those types of sports.

"I'm only young once, and unless someone hasn't told me something yet, I only get to live once," Corrales told the Review-Journal. "If I couldn't do this stuff now, stuff I always wanted to do, I would never get a chance to do it."

The father of five children, Corrales struggled through the last part of his life. He had financial difficulties and used part of a signing bonus he had received from Golden Boy Promotions to pay back taxes he owed.

However, Golden Boy was seeking the money back because it turned out he was not free to sign with the company and still was under contract to Shaw. As Yahoo! Sports reported last week, Corrales had signed a legal document promising to repay the money.

The knockout win over Castillo turned out to be the last of his career. He was knocked out in the fourth round of the Oct. 8, 2005, rematch with Castillo, a bout marked by a controversy when Castillo failed to make the lightweight division limit of 135 pounds.

Corrales agreed to fight at 147 pounds so as not to disappoint fans who had purchased tickets. But Castillo then failed to make weight for a planned June 3, 2006, rubber match, and that bout was canceled.

Corrales then didn't make weight for an Oct. 7, 2006, bout with Joel Casamayor and wound up losing his title on a split decision. In his last bout, on April 7, he was soundly beaten in a welterweight match by Joshua Clottey.

"He gave every ounce of himself every time he was in there," his manager, James Prince, said. "He was a fearless guy, and I'll always remember how hard he fought no matter what the circumstances."

About Me

I'm very interested in Money...I've met her once and I can't live without her, she makes me feel good, but I'm strong enough to know that too much of her wouldn't be healthy. So I always make time for Money, a day that I take her out and show her the things I like. I make Money and Money is just starting to realize that she can't make me.
